Support Worker

A rewarding opportunity exists for an experienced Support Worker to join our Client Services team at Guide Dogs Queensland (GDQ), based at our head office in Bald Hills.

This Part time and Casual opportunity is available working across the week to support our clients in various programs offered (with the availability to work overnights and weekends when required) this role will deliver life-skills programs, recreational activities and community-based services to our clients with low or no vision to meet their individual goals. This is not a high-needs support worker role.

The successful applicant will participate in supporting an existing multidisciplinary team of staff in the delivery of programs, camps and classes and work with a range of people of all abilities and ages.

The position is also responsible for:

  • Report writing which includes gathering and presenting client feedback.
  • Assisting funded clients with activities in and around their home and in the community.
  • Providing supervision and support for adults, young people and children whilst residing at Guide Dogs Queensland.
  • Providing support and assistance with meal preparation and orientation to the environment.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate:

  • Experience in working with and the ability to effectively connect with people of all abilities, ages and backgrounds
  • An understanding of the different types of vision impairment faced by Queenslanders
  • Excellent people skills, including strong communication skills
  • A current First Aid qualification
  • Availability to work afternoons and overnights
  • An open driver’s licence

Additionally, candidates who can demonstrate any creative and/or lifestyle skills that could be shared with small groups and a willingness to teach our clients these skills are highly desirable.
