The role
We have a rare and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Canine Attendant to join our team on a casual basis at our Breeding and Training centre at Bald Hills!
Our Canine Attendants are responsible for creating and maintaining a high-quality kennel environment that ensures the health and wellbeing of our Guide Dogs Queensland colony are always a priority.
Canine Attendants perform general canine duties and tasks including administrative tasks relating to the health and general husbandry of the dogs in our care. This may include bathing, grooming, health checking, weighing, exercising, feeding and toileting.
Our facilities operate year-round, including all public holidays. As a Canine Attendant, you will be responsible for covering shifts that include early mornings, evenings, overnights, and weekends. Our ideal candidate will be flexible and be able to work a rotating 7-day roster, including the capacity to cover last-minute shifts.
Our Canine Attendants are staffed from 6am to 8pm each day, with two overlapping 7-hour shifts: 6am to 1:30pm and 12:30pm to 8pm. Shorter, approximately 4-hour shifts may also be required depending on dog numbers, particularly in the early morning and evenings.
We will require our successful candidate to have full availability for up to 5 days a week for your first 5 weeks for an initial training period.
About You
Our successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Minimum Certificate III in Animal Studies or relevant experience working in kennels, veterinary clinics, or boarding facilities.
- Open Driver’s Licence.
- An up-to-date tetanus vaccination.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under a high-pressure environment.
- The ability to be flexible with working hours and requirements as this role requires 24/7 availability.
